We have a limited time special offer running on horse training as we have a student coming in.
Luke Tucker was here in the summer and is back to do some more work with us and the horses. Luke has been training at Monty Roberts’ ranch in the USA and has been working on a stud over here, dealing with stallions and breeding mares. He also travelled across France with the Princes Trust training horses for the RDA, and spent two weeks at LTL working with the horses in training.
He will be training the horses himself, with guidance from us, in order to build up his skills and confidence.
The offer is available from the 2nd until the 20th November, and the rate will be discounted to £100 from £175.
If you’d like to have a chat or book your horse in please contact Alex on 01765 689368 or info@learningtolisten.co.uk

Good morning
How are you?
We have set off this week with a flying start with a Warrior Programme running, Milly still in training & training sessions each night!
First though, I have to tell you, my sister bought my mum & dad a hawk flying experience for last Sunday. They walked through the woods at the Harrogate Arms flying the hawks with Tommy for Enviro Hawk. It was a gorgeous day and the birds were beautiful - Tommy had amazing relationships with them, Frankie & Tara. They would make brilliant gifts, check out www.enviro-hawk.com
I am teaching one of Sarah’s Warrior students with the horses each night this week, Alan. Last night we looked at working with his energy to move Todd in the arena, and slow him down, as both Alan and Todd are very good at speeding up but find it harder to slow down.
Alan also wanted to help me work with Milly in the trailer and by the end of the session we had her standing in their of her own accord which was very sweet. Todays job - shutting her in.
I’m sure Sarah will tell you all about the Warrior and no doubt be posting her Flip Videos of them all.
For now I have to crack on but I’ll speak soon
Alex
Another gorgeous day, who knew it was nearly October?!
Well, we took Bertie to his new home on Wednesday morning. He loaded like a pro and the long journey helped him to work through his anxieties and settle which was good news. I’m sure he’ll be a star before long under Amy & Anne Marie’s training, but I have to say I was emotional about leaving him behind. You can’t help but get attached.
Mily was due to go home today but obviously didn’t want to, as after loading well when we picked her up and in her practice while she’s been here she decided today wasn’t the right day to leave. So, she’s staying another week for lots more loading practice. I’ve also been riding her too which she’s been really good with, and Jodie rode her too yesterday. Good at keeping you grounded are horses!
So, I think that’s all my news. We’ve got a Western Clinic next weekend and a Warrior Programme all week so I’m just tidying and reorganising ready to go again.

How cute are the pictures above? These guys are just some of the animals that get looked after by the boys. They are only a few weeks old but have grown sooo much it’s ridiculous. The boys also have rabbits, pigs and chickens to look after. All the animals are part of the Social Enterprise that we created at the end of last year and are also part of our plan for sustainability on the farm. We hope to be able to be pretty much self sufficient by the end of the next school year so wish us luck with the veggie patch!
The boys had a bit of a mixed week last week with one thing and another. One of them was exceptional all week but the other is having a hard time of it at the moment and although things are going well here, it’s not to good at home. This is something we find quite a lot, that if things are going well in one area then in another they will try to sabotage things. It is all to do with them not being able to cope with everything going well because they are so used to things going wrong. It is about self esteem and confidence and is a continuing battle for these guys. All we can do is be here to offer them the support and encouragement that they need to get through a rough time.
The Mowbray group were here again on Friday and helped Lee to make a shelter for the pigs using some railing, some wire and a lot of straw. It really does look like something out of the book “The Three Little Pigs”. Maybe we will end up having to build them a house out of bricks!
Well I still seem to have a lot to do despite having spent all day working, the list just seems to get longer, so I will love you and leave you. Speak soon

The Partnership Course is a five day programme tailored to meet the needs of you and your horse. Whether you are a new partnership or have been together years the course will give you a deeper insight into why your horse does what he does, what he’s thinking and what he is trying to tell you. It’s also a lovely way to take some time out from the hustle and bustle of every day life, relax with your horse and learn at the same time.
Upcoming dates are: 12th - 16th October & 9th - 13th November
Our Introductory Course is the only one of it’s kind available. The year long programme covers not only equine behaviour, psychology & LTL’s concepts, it also includes stable management, feeding & nutrition, breeding & stud practice and horse performance up to NVQ Level 3 standard.

Hello all,
Even my Mum told me off for not writing enough on here the other night so thought I’d better catch up.
Well…like the others have said, there is so much going on its hard to know where to start!
Milly, the little welsh cob, is doing well with her training. She’s been an interesting one, as for someone so young she has definately learnt how to fight to get out of a situation (I guess she’s a little like our kids up here). I’ve had to do lots of work with her brain and using no equipment as as soon as she feels restricted she fights. I had a sticky point with the bridle on Tuesday. When we had her wolf teeth taken out it became evident she’d had a bit in before, and her opinion of it isn’t very good. I asked Sarah & Sarah Ellis to come down and have a look as sometimes when you’re in so close you can’t see the whole picture. We did lots more brain work and gave her nothing to fight with and she came lovely. I’m going to try ride her out a little way today! Wish me luck!
Bertie has also come on leaps and bounds, although he just can’t be still! Because his brain is always buzzing his feet can’t stop moving either. To many people I’m sure he’d look like he was just being rude but I know he just can’t help it. We are taking him to Anne Marie & Amy Young’s on Wednesday so I might be a bit emotional waving goodbye to my boy. Did I tell you I sat on him on Tuesday? He was funny, he kept having to walk around cause he was too weak to hold me and stand still, bless him. Think it will be a while before he’s eventing!
We’ve had some lovely feedback from the demo we did on Friday night at Holmside too. Sarah and I did 2 demo’s for a corporate group at Swinton Castle on Thursday and we have one more to do this afternoon. I tell you what, lunch and afternoon tea at the castle is hard work…..do you think anyone beleives me?!
Very excited about our trip to Aus too. It’s not far away now but lots of work to get done in the meantime. As well as writing the course and training manuals we have all the day to day stuff to do, Western lessons and clinics coming up, and I need to clip Livvie this week so we’ll be ready for a break when we get on the plane!
Sarah Mid is here now with fresh sausage rolls for breakfast then we are venturing out with Milly.

Hi Everyone,
Well I barely know where to start. I have been doing soooo many exciting things recently. The Warrior Programme is going amazingly. We have had lots of professionals on the programmes from the NHS, people who run their own companies in professional development, leadership, doctors, psychologists, Informed Assessment’s directors John & Stewart. I’ve even had the Alzheimer’s Society wanting me to help the carers understand more about non-verbal communication. I love it.
I am going to look at our NEW site for our next centre in Bradford tomorrow. All the animals are there already and it’s called Hill Top to! Amazing.
We booked our tickets for Australia. We are going to launch the Warrior Programme out there in my home town with a friend of mine. 4 of us are going, My new Instructors Alex and Sarah and Beccy who is opening the centre in Bradford first before opening one in Sydney. We can barely contain ourselves. We get to stay in this 5 start apartment on Bondi Beach before heading to the south coast to another amazing house 10 feet from the beach. Not that I’m bragging or anything.
I did a new kind of demo the other night showing how horses reflect us and our lives. It was great. If I can do the demos like that then you’ll see me around. No more banging on horses noses for us!
The second part of the barns to be developed at LtL at Masham is under way. The roof is nearly done. LtL at Masham will remain the HQ.
Our school is flying and Chris our lead teacher is really bringing out the best in the kids, place & team. Our market stall in Masham is a regular thing and the kids Social Enterprises are doing well. We have new pigs and calves to. I will get Sarah Mid to put some photos up.
This is Pigeon House Mountain near to my hometown in Aus. We are going to climb it while we are there. The last bit is just ladders to the top…. hmmmm that will be interesting. Not sure about H&S over there.
Well me and the team are just sitting down to a well deserved drink! Have a good one.
Sarah
John & Stewart came to try out some of our NEW exercises from The Warrior Programme Programme. They run a company called Informed Assessment www.InformedAssessment.co.uk . What a fun time we had. Very clever gentlemen with a great business. Go onto Youtube and see how they got on!
